To change the world, you’ve got to go all in.

At IU, we’re proud of our many #1 rankings, prize-winning faculty members, and record-breaking research grants. But we don’t do what we do for the recognition. We do it for the benefit of our students, communities, and the world. And when we put our minds to something, we don’t just give our all. We go all in.

Student success

We believe everyone deserves a high-quality college education, a degree they can afford, and an experience designed to help them succeed. To bring that about, all nine of our locations employ a variety of strategies that address every part of the student journey.

Earning top ten for social mobility

By earning a college degree, students create better lives for themselves and their whole families. That’s why we’re so proud that in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, IU East and IU South Bend scored in the top ten nationally for their efforts to prioritize the graduation rates of lower-income students.

Making IU accessible to all

Students start down the path to college long before they fill out an application. To help ensure their success, we are working with high schools across the state to give students a head start by bringing college curriculum to the classroom. We’re also removing common barriers to post-secondary education, including a number of fees.

Training Indiana's medical professionals

Indiana has a critical need for healthcare providers. We are working to fill those gaps, awarding degrees to more than 500 doctors, physical therapists, occupational therapists, dentists, and other doctoral-level health professionals each year. And when it’s time to establish their careers, more than 50% settle in Indiana to care for Hoosiers.

Research impact

We believe that research has the power to transform the world. Our researchers work across disciplines to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges. Among our initiatives include research that aims to eliminate childhood diseases, cure certain types of cancer, and solve many of the issues an aging population faces.

Stopping the clock on Alzheimer's

Alzheimer’s claims more lives every year. To combat it, we’ve developed one of the strongest Alzheimer’s research programs in the nation. Four of the School of Medicine's top five funded research initiatives tackle the different facets of the disease. Last fall the MODEL-AD program, which develops better animal models, received almost $50 million in funding.

Providing new perspectives on breast cancer

Why do some people get breast cancer when others don’t? How does environment affect a person's chance of getting the disease? These are just a few of the questions researchers are able to explore thanks to the 4,900 breast tissue samples collected by a research facility at IU—the world's only healthy breast tissue bank.

Developing the world’s first childhood vaccine for norovirus

Thanks to new technology developed by IU researchers in the College of Arts and Sciences, norovirus will no longer claim the lives of more than 100,000 children worldwide every year. They found a way to alter the rotavirus vaccine to also protect against norovirus.

Academic excellence and leadership

We believe that our students and communities deserve nothing less than our best. To make sure they get just that, we focus on building unique opportunities and top-notch programs.

Teaching the most languages in the nation

Arabic. Chinese. Russian. Swahili. Yiddish. IU offers more than 80 language learning options, more than any other university in the country. We're also home to the nation’s most Language Flagship Programs, which train students in languages critical to national security and economic competitiveness.
