Student Organization Accounts (SOA) provides fiscal oversight and banking/bookkeeping services to student organizations as recognized through the Student Life & Learning (formerly Student Activities) and the Residential Program and Services Offices. Additionally, the department works to provide customer service assistance to the organizations, various administrative offices and local merchants.

Back in April, you all were promised an August update regarding changes taking place in Student Organization Accounts (SOA). So, we start off now with that important news to share:
We are excited to inform you that your registered student organization will now still be able to use SOA during the 2018-19 academic year! The deadline for SOA changing fiscal processes and confirming organization status has been postponed. SOA will take the year to transition together with all involved, in ways that collaboratively educate, inform and guide everyone forward to this required university change.
That said, you will need to plan to do a few things now, so please keep reading!
Please review the following, essential actions steps for your organization's leadership:
1. Connect with your Advisor early this semester to review the policy that explains the two categories of student organizations:
a. SGSO (Self Governed Student Organization)
b. USO (University Student Organization).
2. Please then assess to see if your organization is currently classified correctly.
3. A process for official classification will be explained and coming shortly!
4. Finally, note that ALL organization classifications will need to be confirmed by November 1, 2018.
It is very important that your student and advisor leadership continue to stay in touch via beINvolved throughout the academic year ahead.
Student Life and Learning (SLL) will inform you of all the next steps needed along the way until April. For now, the info above is the only first step you need to take.

We have asked all vendors to stop accepting IU SOA Cards after June 30, 2018. We cannot guarantee payment of their invoices from our office if they are charged to the Student Organizations account after this date.

USO’s will be treated as operating units of Indiana University. SGSO’s will be considered an independent entity or independent association of individual students.
In light of these changes we are not establishing any new accounts for student organizations at this time. An organization can form and become registered but will need to establish their own financial account. The organization may still receive funding through departmental or funding board support though the SOA office.
