Andrew Kipnis is a senior fellow in the Departments of Anthropology and Political and Social Change at the Australian National University. His research interests focus on cultural, social and political change in China. He is author of Governing Educational Desire: Culture, Politics and Schooling in China (U. of Chicago Press, 2011), China and Postsocialist Anthropology: Theorizing Power and Society after Communism (Eastbridge, 2008), and Producing Guanxi: Sentiment, Self and Subculture in a North China Village (Duke U. Press, 1997). He is also co-editor of The China Journal.
Professor Kipnis received his doctorate from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
